Business Definition for: Computer Telephony Integration

  • the combining of computer and telephone technology to allow a computer to dial telephone numbers, route calls, and send and receive messages. One product of computer telephony integration is the process of caller identification, or caller ID. Caller ID identifies the telephone number a customer is calling from, searches the customer database to identify the caller, and pops up the customer account on the receiver's computer screen, using the facility known as screen popping, before the call is answered.
