Business Definition for: Cover Letter
- a letter sent to a potential employer together with a résumé. It is used when a jobseeker knows the exact position he or she is applying for, and the name of the person to whom the résumé is being sent.
A cover letter is important because it is the first thing the hiring manager will read, and is key to them forming their first impression of the jobseeker. It must, therefore, be well-presented, well-informed, concise, professional, and yet enthusiastic.
