Employee assistance programs can range from support for staff during periods of intensive change, counseling to tackle the problem of stress, return-to-work, and eldercare initiatives, to defined organizational policies on substance abuse and bullying. Employee assistance programs are established by employers who recognize that providing professional support for their staff makes good business sense. Some organizations find it cost-effective to outsource the program, depending on the nature of the problem and on the size of the organization.
