- an information system established with the goal of creating competitive advantage and improving the competitive position of an organization. A strategic information system supports and shapes the corporate strategy of an organization, often leading to innovation in the way the organization conducts its business, the creation of new business opportunities, or the development of products and services based on information technology. Strategic information systems represent a development in organizational use of information systems, following in the wake of MISs, EISs, and decision support systems.
